A smart lock that suits one door can be wrong for the next. Checking a few points before a project order avoids returns, site delays and re-ordering.

1. Door material. Wood, steel, aluminium frame and glass doors take different fixings and lock bodies.

2. Door thickness. Confirm the actual thickness on site; it decides which spindle and fixing set the lock needs.

3. Lock body and backset. Mortise lock bodies vary between markets. Measure the existing body and backset, or send a photo of the door edge.

4. Handing and opening direction. Left or right, inward or outward — note it per door type, not once per project.

5. Unlock methods and users. Fingerprint, code, card, app or key? For rentals and apartments, think about how codes and cards will be issued and removed.

6. Power and battery access. Check where batteries are replaced and whether there is an emergency power or key option the occupants can reach.

7. Installation. Decide who installs and, where possible, fit one door first before rolling out the rest.

For reference, see TENON product pages such as the K9, E3 and F8 smart locks.

Send your door details through our B2B Procurement page and we will confirm which TENON model and version fits.
